Merit Mortgage Group is a wholesale mortgage provider in Williamsburg, VA. Our goal as a company is that every member of the team looks out for the best interest and experience of our clients. With backgrounds in sales and property management, we understand that integrity, combined with exceptional customer service, makes all the difference in business.

Refinance
& Purchase

Merit Mortgage group is your one-stop shop for refinances and purchases. As a mortgage broker, we are able to access over a dozen different lenders to search for the best programs and rates to ensure a successful loan process. As the broker, we obtain your mortgage application and then serve as the liaison between you and the lender for your mortgage needs. We have direct access to underwriters and lenders to ask questions all while advocating for you from start to finish. As a “wholesale broker,” we are shopping your specific loan against lenders to make sure we can get you the rate that meets your needs, minimizing closing costs and closing your loan in a timely manner.

We utilize safe and secure cloud-based loan origination software, and provide total cost analyses for loan comparisons specific to your financial situation. For your convenience, all refinance and purchase documents can be digitally signed up until the closing day.

Conventional

First-time home buyers may qualify for as little as 3% down. 8 to 30 year fixed-rate mortgages with no pre-payment penalties. No appraisal options that could reduce or remove PMI completely.

VA Loan

Qualified veterans, service members and military families receive favorable loan terms with as little as 0% down, flexibility on income requirements and streamlined refinance options available.

USDA Loan

If you’re looking to buy a home with 0% down then you might consider the USDA loan. Income guidelines apply, but the USDA loan is a great option to consider in rural and suburban areas.

Alicia Medford

Alicia Medford is the Broker-Owner of Merit Mortgage Group. After graduating from Christopher Newport University, Alicia worked in mortgage loss mitigation followed by working in the customer service/sales industry. In 2017, she came back to the mortgage industry and has not looked back since. With a goal of building her own business from the ground up, Alicia launched Merit Mortgage in January 2023. Alicia is passionate about serving her clients with kindness and integrity and equipping clients with the tools to become successful homeowners.

Mortgages aside, Alicia and her husband, Rob, have six boys who are active in nearly every sport, from swimming to soccer to tennis. Alicia loves to stay in shape by running/training, playing pickleball, and coaching her kids in their various sports adventures. Alicia and her family love to vacation on the coast of North Carolina each summer, and you’ll learn quickly that Alicia is an avid Kansas Jayhawk basketball fan!

Kara Jumper

Kara Jumper is a loan officer as well as Alicia’s assistant and a loan processor with Merit Mortgage Group. After graduating from Liberty University, Kara worked for seven years in property management. Alicia pursued Kara for nearly a year to get her to take the leap to the mortgage industry, and thankfully, in late 2019, Kara took a step of faith and was able to say “YES!” Kara’s attention to detail, task management, and diligence make her a key component of Merit Mortgage. Kara and Alicia work hand-in-hand throughout the loan process from application to closing, ensuring you’re well taken care of throughout the journey.

Kara and her husband, Ryan, have two children, Rosie and Jordan. Aside from working and keeping up with a toddler and newborn, Kara enjoys working out, rollercoasters, the beach, and cheering on the Indiana Hoosiers alongside her husband!
